Organic Co-Sleeper Mattresses and Wool Pads

 Organic Co-Sleeper Infant Mattress
After reviewing many articles on infant sleeping safety, we have come to the conclusion that it is safer for young babies to sleep in the same room as the parents (for quick escape in case of fire, for example), but not necessarily in the adult bed, due to the possible risk of adult bedding and pillows posing a suffocation hazard.  Co-sleepers are a wonderful option for parents that want the baby close by for comfort and breastfeeding.  Placing a crib adjacent to the adult bed is another option to keep the baby close by in case of a fire in the house, and we also offer organic crib mattresses
Even though cooking is the leading cause of home fires, careless smoking is the leading cause of fire deaths.  This is the reason for the federal requirements for flame retardent mattresses and bedding.  In fact, the federal test for mattresses involves actually placing a cigarette on the mattress to see if it catches fire.  Check smoke detectors once a month to be sure you'll know as soon as possible if a house fire occurs while sleeping. The fire death risk for children under age five is nearly double the risk of the average population.  Breathing even small amounts of smoke and toxic gases can make you drowsy, disoriented and short of breath. The odorless, colorless fumes can lull you into a deep sleep before the flames reach your door. You may not wake up in time to escape. We believe it is safer for young children to sleep in the same room as the adults (assuming they are non-smokers), because this allows for quick escape from the house in case of fire (assuming smoke detectors are working so they can wake you up!)
We include a gift of a free organic cotton sheet with the organic co-sleeper mattress.  Organic co-sleeper mattresses have a choice of an outer wool layer with a rubber core, or a cotton/wool quilted-outer casing w/ rubber core. Standard 1.5" thick and meets or exceeds all safety guidelines set by the CPSC (the natural wool in the mattress acts as a flame retardent, without the use of harmful chemicals). Replace the chemical mattress with the natural alternative.  Ships from Pure Rest Organic by UPS ground (allow 3-4 weeks in case of backorders, but normally ships in 1-2 weeks).  Sorry no P.O. boxes or military addresses (ships by UPS ground).

Customer review of the co-sleeper mattress:
"The mattress that comes with the co-sleeper has a hard board back and a pretty stiff upper mattress part. It folds into quarters, so it also has 3 seams in the softer part where the folds are. The organic co-sleeper mattress is VERY soft, but not inappropriately so for a newborn. Much softer than the one that comes with the co-sleeper. It doesn't fold, so no gappy seams in the mattress (it came in the box loosely rolled.) I feel soooo much better about putting my baby on the organic mattress than the original co-sleeper one, even if neither was organic, just from a comfort and breathability point of view. The fact that the mattress is also organic makes it a dream come true!"

More information from the manufacturer:
"If the vinyl co-sleeper mattress comes with plywood board in it, then customers need to keep the board for stability. We recommend coating it with a natural finish to keep formaldehyde in the board, but even just changing the mattress is a great start. Formaldehyde has not proven to be extremely hazardous like PBDE's have. Most synthetic mattresses have flame-retardant chemicals and PBDE's added. To research further, search for PBDE's."  Organic mattresses have no fire retardant chemicals (the mattresses meet federal standards because the wool in the mattress is a natural flame retardant).  Why use chemicals when there is a natural alternative?
If the co-sleeper mattress does not come with a separate board, customers have reported putting the new co-sleeper mattress on top of the existing co-sleeper mattress if the co-sleeper does not have a solid surface.

Organic Merino Wool Mattress Pad for play-yards or bassinets
Animal-lovers alternative to lambskin. Super-thick and super-soft, this is simply a cut piece of fabric (shown as changing pad in the photo, but we can cut it to almost any size you might need, custom size up to 32 x 36 inches max for the $59 price, please make a note in on your order or let us know by e-mail what dimensions you need).  Compare to the $99 retail price offered elsewhere for a smaller piece of this beautiful plush fabric.  We have a limited fabric supply offered at the pricing shown, in order to make more room at our house for other products (even a half-roll of fabric is about 3 feet in diamater!)  For much smaller sizes, please see the changing pad page for lower pricing, or for larger/longer sizes we have a crib mattress size.  The organic merino wool pile fabric (w/ organic cotton backing) is made in the U.S.A.roughly 1-1.5" thick, completely chemical-free, untreated, certified organic.  This is a great alternative to lamb skins, and oh so soft (you won't want to take your hands off it).  This beautiful thick fabric is not machine washable (spot clean gently only by hand, avoiding rubbing motion which mats down the fibers).

Customer Comments:

"The Tres Tria arrived yesterday. I love it! It is great for nursing, for reading, and for sleeping. Other body pillows are just elongated head pillows, but the Tres Tria really supports your body. It is the next best thing to cuddling up to a cooperative husband." - Jessica

"We got the Tres Tria yesterday and used it last night!! ... Perfection!! Leo loved not sleeping next to the railing. And dh tested it out before bed in a hilarious spectacle that I should have video taped. He tried to roll over the Tres Tria (speed bump he calls it) and off the bed and could not do it. And so, he deemed it safe for his two dudes.

"Before bed, the boys took turns doing tumbling moves over the Tres Tria and had quite a ball. You can add that to your list of possible uses for the pillow." - Audra

"I love that the Tres Tria holds its shape and stays in place when used for co-sleeping. [And] it is so great as a body pillow! Another thing that struck me is when my son and the baby were napping together in the king, I couldn't leave the room because I was afraid he would roll over on the baby. But now I can put the Tres Tria between them!

My Tres Tria takes up less space than our other co-sleeping pillow for sure. You've done a wonderful job engineering this, Leah - you should be very proud!" - Shannon

Co-sleeping
For co-sleeping (bed sharing with an infant or toddler), simply slip it under your fitted bottom sheet flush with the edge of your mattress. The bolster's weight along with your sheet will hold it in place.
Tres Tria is mindful that there are a myriad of bed sharing philosophies from the occasional couple of extra hours of morning sleep to ecological breastfeeding. Sometimes parents are not sure which nighttime strategy is best for their family. Aware of the complexities of being a parent, Tres Tria is an ideal product to suit the growing and changing needs of families as they try to find harmony in their nighttime routines.
At 3 feet in length, it measures the same as standard co-sleeping cribs and is compact and portable. No assembly or disassembly required and the cover zips off for easy cleaning. Even for occasional bed sharing, the Tres Tria is an excellent investment that will not simply become clutter after the infant years.

Body Pillow/Pregnancy Pillow
Sleeping can be challenging enough during the childrearing years. The situation needn't be more difficult during pregnancy. Place the Tres Tria in front of your belly and use it to prop up a leg, keeping you securely in a side lying position. (Left side lying is actually recommended for relieving digestive discomfort and for lowering blood pressure.) Position the Tres Tria behind you to support sore hips and back. You'll never sleep without it (literally)!! Treat yourself and make pregnancy easier for you and your baby.

Nursing Positioner
Use the Tres Tria to gently position your little nursling during the night. It eliminates the need for wedges and additional pillows. Simplify your nighttime experience.

Toddler Bed
Toddlers are generally no less active in their sleep than they are in during their waking hours. Use the Tres Tria on their little beds in the same way you would on a family bed. Position the bolster under the edge of the fitted sheet and keep your active toddler gently in his bed. It is actually much more secure than a toddler bed rail which can slide out part way allowing your child to wedge himself between mattress and railing, or slip out altogether, leaving your toddler confused and possibly injured. Treat your child to a cozier and safer alternative.

Travel
The Tres Tria is also super-portable and makes travelling to relatives' homes or to a hotel much easier. Let's face it, sleeping arrangements are among the most unpredictable factors when travelling. Siblings that don't usually sleep together are forced to do so, the hotel can't provide a bassinet leaving you to "create a bed," and the preggie mama ... she's usually crowded and exhausted!
When worried about your baby rolling off the bed, you tend to allot a whole lot of room - and all the extra pillows! But put the Tres Tria on your bed, scoot it all the way to the edge and your baby can go right up to it - often leaving you with more 'room' than if you didn't have the Tres Tria.
Whatever the sleeping/pregnancy/nursing situation, the Tres Tria can help make it easier on the whole family.

Reading Pillow
Keep the Tres Tria handy for a comfy reading pillow and feel your neck and shoulders relax for a fantastic read. Don't be surprised to find another family member swiping the Tres Tria on a Sunday afternoon.
